if urge to run from death stemmed from the unique value in us yet to be freed, why would it cower inside weak vessels to begin with?

the stars organize into formation asking you to "come home". but which one of you is such a place? you ask.
they answer. "we're merely here to lead the lost. many have leaned onto us, and we allow you to do the same."
you now hold some sort of compass made of flimsy silver wires that's almost too light to keep it on your palms.

it's pointing behind of you as of now.

Radio: May we talk for a bit before we depart, if we will even do that? We suggested all that we did because we wanted what was best for Outis (at least, I did, don't know about the other voices). We're from Earth itself, and I think it's a wonderful planet full of opportunities. From the depths of the sea arose a giant beast - a sea drake of enormous size.
So he asks the hero.
"Who are you and what are you doing on this island, the Isle of the Lost, one from which there is no escape?"
And the hero told the drake his name and how he got there.
"The tale is curious. I will help you if you answer 3 of my riddles."
And so the hero answered the drake's riddles, and the drake allowed the hero to ride him through the sea. Yet as they pierced through the waves, swiftly approaching the hero's homeland, there appeared a ship of hunters. They pursued the drake and killed him with harpoons and magic. And so the hero ended up on the hunter's vessel after they rescued him from the waves.
"Why did you kill the drake? He tried to help me reach my homeland."
"Don't be silly. Drakes don't help people." answered the hunters.
They took the hero to port, and as he stepped upon the streets and soil of his home, he was happy. And yet there was also sadness in his heart that the drake died. He made a living taking upon odd jobs, and when he could afford it, he bought a boat.

He started venturing out to sea in hopes of meeting more sea drakes. And one day, he got into a storm. The waves were high, crashing against the boat and filling it with water. The hero tried to reach the shore, but feared he would remain at the sea forever. And then appeared a phantom, a spirit akin to a giant, long, scaly beast - indeed, it was the old drake.
So the hero asked him
"What can I do to honour your death? To give my thanks to you?"
And the drake answered:
"Remember me and share the memory with others."
The storm disappeared with the drake's spirit. The hero got back to shore safely. It was a long time ago. The hero conversed with many people since then and to those he trusted, he told the story of the sea drake that rescued him. And perhaps with time, the peoples' view of sea drakes changed, and they coexist peacefully now instead of hunting for each other.

The end.

A watercolour painter comes forth

What is his painting that sets the land alight?

Second one:
One day they're cliffs, next day they're plains,
A watchman oversees these lands
And guides lost strangers through the haze
With stalwart blazy gaze.
What is this watchman?

Tell me the answers when we get to another peaceful time stretch. I'll leave inventing the third one up to you.

the bat almost flees like last time, but you were able to persuade her not to.

"oh, i thought you were here for a dead bat. glad it's not."
you ask her if the lab is operating.

" yeah, dr is always up and running. seriously, he's like machine."
" i work as his assistant, sort of. do you need anything from us?"

" may i store that knife for you?, doc is paranoid about sharp stuff."

" thanks for your cooperation.., hehe... I'll wait outside."

isn't lab supposed to be clean? this is polar opposite of that.
a short, bespectacled boffin introduces himself shortly after your arrival.

he surely is questionable for a doctor.

squealer pulls out a giant drill that makes you catatonic.
" if you're hoping to preserve her last remaining bits of memory, i recommend that we start without delay.
we gotta pry open her device. do you consent?
/
canny turns to you and lets out concerned, murky plea. " i don't know why we're here. can we go back? "
>>
>>5854394
Hm. So our memories are contained in chips.

>and it is perfectly normal that we don't hold memories prior to boarding this ship, outis.
We've had reminiscenses of a place that we strongly feel is our home so this is not entirely true.

In any case, if surgery performed by questionable doc is the only way to preserve our bud's mind, I don't see much of an option other than proceed with hope.

Tell doc to wait a moment while we talk with Canny outside the lab. Help her calm down, then explain in simple terms what's this about and that she'll feel much, much better when it's done. It does look scary, but reassure her we'll stay by her side the whole time.
>>
>>5854394
Ah so John's behavior comes from his surgery? I'm not sure if it should be done, she doesn't seem to like the idea much.
>>
>>5854488
What's the alternative tho, if doc speaks truthfully her condition will worsen if we leave things as they are.

Then again maybe these are just the effects of severe insomnia kicking in. Which is treated with good sleep, not invasive brain surgery. Can't we ask doc for a more in-depth medical examination?
>>
>>5854509
>Can't we ask doc for a more in-depth medical examination?
We can ask, but I don't know what his definition of 'in-depth medical examination' could be.
>>
>>5854513
Asking is worth a shot. If things smell fishy we can leave this on standby for a while.
>>
>>5854537
That's fair.

>you've found reports of gradual amnesia experienced by chimeras with damaged ear device.
Canny told us that her ear radio broke down one night. What if repairing it leads to her amnesia being cured? We wouldn't have to mess with her internal chip or whatever turned John partly insane.

Aside from the medical examination bit we should also ask doc if he or someone among the crew knows how to repair these radios.

we're now back to balcony.
perhaps she just needs some good sleep. but what if your name gets lost in one of her unspoken dreams?
then, is trusting squealer fine idea? he didn't seem to feel much remorse for john. a quack he might be.

her flaky eyes fixated at the vast space.
from cradle to grave, we are stuck here.

>bring her to doctor now.
>let her sleep for awhile.
>>
>>5854743
We should let her sleep. If this procedure turns out to be necessary, then she should at least be well rested for it.

If the bat assistant is nearby I'd also like to ask about getting some food.
>>

Don't see many options here unfortunately.
Before we met she hanged in there for days with her radio broken, what's a few hours extra gonna do?
Let's bring her somewhere dark so the lights don't disturb her sleep, or at least find some piece of clothing to cover her eyes with.

In all seriousness, and just in case we lose contact from here onwards, I must say it's been fun to travel with you and I wish you a great time on Earth.

Part of me still wonders what the founder's deal was, the nature of us voices, how'd you end up creating a lightsource and a wormhole out of wall posters, and the stars pointing us to come home... Perhaps these things will remain a mystery, but there's clearly supernatural intervention involved.

It might sound a bit weird, but I think it'd be prudent if you pray with Canny before leaving. Maybe God is the reason we can communicate at all. Maybe He's listening to our conversation right now. Maybe He is the end signal the founder wanted us to find in outer space, without realizing that the end signals that grant us immense joy can be found in the very Earth that He made for us.

One of the most original quests i've seen on the board. A quite strange mix (in an enjoyable way).of sci-fi and spiritual / paranormal themes.

I wonder who the cacophony and the one-eyed figure here >>5846522 are. God? The ascended founder? Kinda wish we had more questions answered, but it's fine to leave some stuff open to interpretation.

To me, this is a story about seeking purpose. The signals represent the memories and footsprints we leave on our world, as well as the goals we set out to reach ("end signal"). Without a signal to embrace, we lose ourselves, hence Canny's amnesia due to her radio breaking.

Great work OP. Take care out there. Hope we all find signals worth tracking down

Yeah, that's kind of why I wanted another quest that could follow up on those questions unless they're leavnig them purposely ambigous which is cool as well. First time \qst\ and this was fantastic. Also I found Canny again.

Canny a cute. When Outis finds her he should surprise her with some proper rodent-approved food, poor girl must be tired of eating canned soup.

Hey QM, do you know how to archive with suptg? Quest was awesome by the way, really love your artwork and very cool animations.
